ASTRO America Selected to Speak at the 2025 ASTM International Conference on Advanced Manufacturing (ICAM25)
Metal 3D Printing Expert Dr. Jared Blecher Presenting at Premier Annual Event for Promoting Additive and Advanced Manufacturing
August 25, 2025 – Bethesda, MD – The Applied Science & Technology Research Organization of America (ASTRO America)’s Director of Additive Technology and Mid-Atlantic General Manager, Dr. Jared Blecher, has been selected to present at ICAM 2025 in Las Vegas in October following the acceptance of his proposal by the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence. Dr. Blecher’s proposal, titled ‘Sensor Optimization and Signal Prediction via Process Monitoring Simulation Tool for Laser Metal (PBFAM).’ will discuss process simulation to short-circuit development processes of tailored sensors for metal laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing (PBFAM).
“ASTRO America is proud to be complementing our customer’s exceptional materials and process engineering with our own tailored approach to application-based metal process modeling,” said Dr. Blecher. “I’m honored to share roughly two years of research at ICAM 2025 and bring such critical analysis to light.”
Sponsored by both the Air Force Research Laboratory and the Office of Secretary of Defense, Dr. Blecher’s work includes findings from simulation studies that he conducted in support of research into hypersonic weapon production processes.
Over the last 20 months, Dr. Blecher not only conducted value stream analysis for relevant supply chains but also employed complex modeling and simulation software to optimize metallic additive manufacturing techniques for these supply chains. Beginning in October, ASTRO anticipates supporting the next phase of hypersonic supply chain research, evaluating the best joining technology for hypersonic flowpath production. While the incumbent technology within hypersonic supply chains is electron beam welding, laser welding is lower cost and more versatile, so ASTRO will thus employ sophisticated modeling and simulation to pioneer adoption of this technology as a viable alternative.
