ASTRO OTA: Project Order 001

Advancement of Component Designs for Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing

Under the ASTRO OTA, we will leverage the world’s largest 3D Printer, located at the Army’s Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing & Technology Center (JMTC), to build prototype models based on material and process application and exploration, capability modeling, development, and implementation of Additive Manufacturing (AM) and Advanced Manufacturing (AdvM) specific to the development of large-scale components.

Project Order 001 focuses on the development of components and applications.

ASTRO will host a series of three workshops under this project order. Find information on upcoming workshops here.

We will announce additional funding opportunities to support adoption and implementation of this large-scale additive manufacturing process for U.S. Department of Defense applications here. The goal of this effort is to explore potential use-cases, paving the way for extensive qualification and potential adoption of the tool.

We are seeking performers who will work with ASTRO America to advance design for manufacturing and support:

  • part prototyping;

  • documenting of relevant materials/processes to enable manufacture of parts; and

  • development of qualification /adoption roadmap, qualification plan, and insertion/adoption report.

A list of any awards made under this project order can be found here.
