In-Situ Awareness Challenge Recap 🎬

We’re excited to share the highlights from our recent Actionable In-Situ Awareness Challenge, where innovators from across the country came together to tackle one of additive manufacturing’s most persistent hurdles: real-time, actionable in-situ monitoring.

Led by ASTRO America, in partnership with ASTM International and FSU InSPIRE, the Challenge showcased how collaborative R&D can push the frontier of quality assurance and process qualification in AM.

Watch the recap video below to see the breakthroughs, the teams, and the momentum building behind smarter, faster, and more reliable AM solutions.

Let us know what you think, and thank you again to all the partners and participants who made this Challenge a success.

ASTRO in the News 📰

America Makes and NCDMM LogoLast month’s announcement of ASTRO’s selection to lead a $1.66 million initiative under the Quality Test and Inspection Methods Expediency (QTIME) project call from America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) made quite a few headlines.

The initiative, funded by the Office of the  Secretary of Defense, Manufacturing Technology Office (OSD ManTech), will accelerate the adoption of metal additive manufacturing (AM) by advancing rapid, cost-effective inspection and qualification methods for complex 3D-printed parts, tackling one of the biggest bottlenecks in metal 3D printing: inspection of complex parts.

ASTRO in Action 🎤

The ASTRO leadership team has been in Guam over the last week for a series of  important meetings and symposiums, including a Satellite Campus Kickoff at the University of Guam (UOG) and a Navy User Symposium. Pictured below are leaders from Colorado School of Mines, UOG, Guam Economic Development Authority, and ASTRO at the Kickoff.

As Walter Ulloa wrote last week in The Guam Daily Post,

“Progress at ASTRO America’s additive manufacturing facility is fueling a broader vision among local officials and educators: transforming Guam into a regional technology center that rivals established innovation corridors like North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park.”

We’re excited for additional announcements on-island this week! 👀 Stay tuned to ASTRO’s website and socials for updates. 🇬🇺
